VIDEO-SUPPORTED TREATMENT

Detecting a TB case is tough but treatment shouldn’t make it harder. That’s why we’ve introduced Video-Supported Treatment (VST) a modern, person-friendly way to stay on track with TB medication.

With just a smartphone, a tablet or a computer, people with TB can easily record or live stream themselves taking their medication, making treatment adherence simple and stress-free. Doctors and nurses then check in remotely either live, in real time or later when the person with TB sends the video.

It’s simple. It’s flexible. And most importantly, it works. Recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), VST is making treatment easier, more affordable and more comfortable for people with TB while helping prevent the spread of drug-resistant TB.

“I LIKE VST” - Bringing Innovation to Tajikistan

Here in Tajikistan, the Stop TB Partnership, Tajikistan together with the Republican Center for Protection of Population from TB launched the I LIKE VST platform.

This smart tool was first created in Moldova during the COVID-19 pandemic by PAS Center and has been adapted to Tajikistan needs and is now helping people with TB take their treatment with dignity and confidence.

Through the app, people with TB can:

  • Quickly record and send videos of their daily medication intake.
  • Follow easy, step-by-step guidance every time they record.
  • Report how they’re feeling so doctors can respond fast if there are problems.

The results speak for themselves: 391 people have already completed their TB treatment through VST and only 4 people had to interrupt the treatment due to relocation/migration. Behind these numbers are real lives people who are now healthier, stronger and free from TB thanks to this innovation.

To make VST possible, we’ve built a strong support system: 376 healthcare workers have been trained to use and manage the platform, 611 people with TB and their families learned how to use the app and 104 community workers are helping people with TB stay engaged and connected. 

In terms of eligibility: VST is available for people in Tajikistan aged 16+, motivated to participate and able to use a phone or computer with internet while on outpatient TB treatment. More than just technology, VST is about freedom the freedom to heal at home, stay close to loved ones and complete treatment successfully.
